The Pilot's Wife

"The Pilot's Wife," by Anita Shreve was one of the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought...." books suggested on Amazon.com while I was browsing for good reads.  I added it to my list of books and it was the first and only available of eight that I tried to reserve at the Library.  I just finished it this afternoon and it is definitely a recommend-worthy book.  Newsday critiques it, "Thoroughly absorbing...from cover to rapidly reached cover."  I would have to agree!  The storyline in and of itself is quite captivating, albeit heart breaking.  Shreve makes it so believable- -but then you realize that it's so believable because the story's events actually happen.  Every day they happen  It's a fictional novel written about unthinkably sad, non-fictional events.  For that reason, I almost felt guilty for finding the story so entertaining and fascinating.  Even so, I will definitely read the novel again.  Or at least, I will definitely read more of Anita Shreve's work.  My knowledge, thus far, of authors is limited so I don't have many to compare, but her way with words is phenomenal.  P.h.e.n.o.m.e.n.a.l.  Several times throughout the book, I paused and thought, "how did she even come up with that!?" or, "that couldn't be described more perfectly."  I feel like my vocabulary and my ability to express myself were enhanced by reading her writing.  I like that.  She is officially my #1 author.  We'll see, over the course of this year, if anyone trumps her.

Now on to the next book- -I just picked it up from the library yesterday!  Until next time....ciao.
