DAY 4: A HABIT YOU WISH YOU DIDN'T HAVE
Speeding. I drive way too fast. And I do consider it a habit because I don't consciously do it. Ask me how many times I've been pulled over and I couldn't even tell you. Last time I counted- -27? Maybe 28? Starting 4 days after I turned 16. Once, I got pulled over twice in one day (and got away without tickets both times! My trick? Honesty. Police appreciate it. I got pulled over 18 times before I received my first ticket. I'm not bragging- -but I'd be dishonest if I said I wasn't proud of it in high school.). I've had my license suspended twice (which makes me sound really bad, but it only takes 3 tickets within a certain period of time to have your license suspended.). Yeah. I've been more aware of it since having a baby, but I still have some work to do. I realize that unless I'm traveling long distances, 10 MPH over the speed limit will only shorten my arrival time by a few minutes. Not worth it. Even so, there's just something about speeding that makes me feel like I'm getting somewhere and getting something done. I need to quit. I haven't been pulled over for nearly 2 years, so I'm getting better.
I drive really fast too! I love too though! ha! Whenever Kev and I are driving together, I always drive just in case we get pulled over! If he wants to be a cop, he can't have anymore tickets on his record...so I take one for the team if I do! However, I haven't been pulled over or gotten a ticket since kev and I were engaged almost 5 years ago! knock on wood though!! drive being raised in California and learning to drive there! You HAVE to drive fast or you will die! I have to say though...that's very impressive that you have gotten out of that many tickets!!
ReplyDeleteWe are SO related. Almost everything you just said I say, "ME TOO!!!" I got pulled over for the first time within two weeks of getting my license. I don't know how many times I've been pulled over like you do, but it's a lot. Oh ya, once I got pulled over twice in two weeks, in the exact same place, by the same cop. HAH! And I do the exact same thing you do. I am totally honest with them and they seem to be grateful for it. I have gotten out of SO many tickets that way. The last ticket I got though was a week before I had Everest. A WEEK!!! I could feel the cop debating whether to ticket me but it was a speed trap and I think they're required to ticket those. But every time I get a ticket I get to go to Traffic school. I could teach that class. I actually really like going so it's not a punishment. Anyway, glad to know it runs in the family. Well, sort of. Some members of my family aren't like us. I can't look at the road when they're driving or I go crazy and want to take the wheel.
ReplyDeleteThat is really funny, my brother Rick had a similar problem in high school, not quite to your caliber, and he for sure got more tickets. I think he got pulled over at least 13 times, and got numerous ticket. One time when I was teasing him about it his response was, "It's not my fault they're picking on me". I had a streak in college where I got pulled over like 4 times in 2 months, not a good time. The last one I bawled because it was a dumb reason and luckily got out of the ticket, but I don't think I've been pulled over since, and that was before I got married (knock on wood).
