September Third

Look at me- -four blog posts in 4 days?  It feels good to be back again!!

September 3rd was a memorable day for our family.  Tyson turned 27 years old!  He's catching up to me ;)  We went to dinner at China Star the Saturday before since his birthday was Tuesday.  We wanted to go to a movie but we didn't care to see any of the 3 movies that were in.  One of the joys of living in small-town USA =0)  We had a BBQ at his mom's house on Monday for labor day and had cake and ice cream for him there.  Then Tuesday night his dad and Betty came to visit.  He is getting better at receiving birthday attention ;)

A sad thing happened on his big day though.  We elasticated our dogs a few days before and Durbin started having problems.  He was obviously sore, which was to be expected, but he started smelling like something dead and he lost his appetite.  It kind of ruined the whole day for Tyson- -he was really worried.  I called a friend who works at a veterinary clinic and she recommended getting him in first thing the next morning for some antibiotics.  I was sick with concern and asked Tyson to give him a blessing or I wouldn't be able to sleep.  He did, and we both cried the whole way through.  I slept, but I woke a few times to feed Adria in the night and went out to check on him each time.  He lived through the night and I took him to the vet as soon as the clinic opened.  The vet sent me home with pain killers and antibiotics and I grabbed some gourmet canned dog food to hopefully appease him.  The medication kicked in pretty quick and he ate for the first time in over 24 hours and before long he was back to his normal self.  A little sore, as to be expected, but wagging his tail and jumping everywhere as always.

But the BIGGEST event of the day was Teryn's first day of preschool!!  A few days leading up to it, I talked to him a lot about buses and school in attempt to prepare him.  Of course the night before was a night he decided to stay up and play until who-knows-when so I was a little worried about his demeanor when I would be forced to wake him up to catch the bus in the morning.  He was a little groggy, but he responded well when I woke him and he was really excited about the school bus!  He still didn't fully comprehend what I was talking about, but his recent fascination with buses at least created some anticipation.

I got him dressed, brushed his teeth, combed his hair, and took him outside to take some pictures.  He looked so grown up and handsome!  When the bus rounded the corner of the block I led him out to the road and he was so excited!  Until the bus let off it's air brakes- -that scared him and made him a little apprehensive but I scooped him up and climbed up on to the bus with him.  An old school friend, Dustin Fitzgerald, is the speech therapist at Conamore and he was the one waiting for Teryn on the bus.  He excitedly welcomed him and Teryn was a little excited, but also concerned.  I told him to show Dustin his Spiderman watch so he did and that made for a good transition.  I stepped off, turned around for one more picture, and he was off!

I totally didn't expect it, but I broke down in tears.  Ryder looked at me like, "what's going on??"  I just knew that Teryn really didn't grasp what was happening- -he had no idea where that bus was taking him.  I was nervous for him because I feared he might get anxious and have a break down.  Especially since he's recently been so attached to me.  But Ryder and I came inside and said a prayer for him and he had a great first day!  He came home so happy!  The Pusher on Tyson's rig, Kevin, is married to one of the teachers at Conamore and she called Kevin and told him to tell Tyson that Teryn was very well behaved and that we won't be able to get him to shut up by the end of the year.  I believe her because already, he's only gone 2 days and he has already progressed so much!  In his speech, and also in his desire to share and help Ryder, his willingness to listen to Tyson and I, and his imaginary play!  He has never been much of an imaginary child, but the past few days, he's used his corn dog stick as a plane, and his big blue ball as the moon.  He is having so much fun and I am just so excited to see his potential start to be reached.  Finally!  I love this boy so much!
