Contrary to any belief that my lack of
blog posting might portray, we really do celebrate. Tyson and I escaped
to the city last weekend to celebrate our fourth year anniversary. Our
van needed a visit to the dealership so it gave us an excuse to get away
for a few days. We left Friday evening and spent the night in Salt
Lake partying with our good friends Matt & Taylor and Jake &
Karlie Mitchell. I am kicking myself for not getting a picture with
them! I guess it just means we have to do it again ;) I did snap one
picture:
We stayed at Matt and Taylor's house and this is what our room
looked like when we arrived. The card said, "thank you for staying at
the Mitchell's." We got a good laugh out of it. They didn't realize we
were out there to celebrate our anniversary so when we shared that
detail it made it even better! We had Dickey's Barbeque take-out for
dinner, played "Buzz Word," and then listened to Matt and Jake tell
jokes. My favorite one, told by Jacob, Q: "What do Mexican jokes and
Black jokes have in common?" A: "Once you've heard Juan, you've heard
Jamal." Ha ha ha! (If you don't get it, you might have to tell it out
loud.) Jake and Karlie went home and the rest of us watched a movie
until 3:00 am. Well, I fell asleep, but only for a minute ;)
First thing Saturday morning, Tyson and Matt took our van to the
dealership and let Taylor and I sleep in for a bit. The dealership
shuttle brought them back and when we were all up and at it we went to
Village Inn for breakfast. I think their strawberry crepes are my
favorite breakfast food in the world. It's become kind of a tradition
for Tyson and I to eat breakfast there when we make it to the city.
After breakfast we made a stop at Sam's Club and then TJ Maxx and Ross.
I wanted to find a home-from-the-hospital outfit for our baby girl but
left with two little summer outfits instead. Look at these!
Both were discovered on the rack by Taylor, thanks Taylor! I LOVE them! Matt also discovered some basketball shoes for Tyson.
Moral of the story: don't go shopping with Matt and Taylor. They are awfully convincing! Ha!
After shopping we made our way to the theater for a movie. Normally
Tyson and I enjoy action movies but I wanted to see something romantic
since we were out for our anniversary. We saw "Safe Haven," created
after a novel by Nicholas Sparks. It was good and we really enjoyed it but I
think we will stick with action movies. I used to love me a good ol'
love story but life has proven that 99% of the time they are unreal and
unlikely. It's not to say action movies are any more realistic, but the
idea of them is more entertaining. I digress....
Our van was finished by the time the movie was over so Matt took us
back to the dealership to pick it up and we went our separate ways.
Thanks for chauffering us around and entertaining us Matt and Taylor!
Tyson and I headed downtown to check into our room at the Marriott at
City Creek. One of my Nauvoo Buddies, Josh Wittwer, was at the desk to
check us in so that was fun to see him! After taking our bags to our
room we walked a block to Temple Square where we met my Korean Twin
Darae and her husband Stephen and son Ty. She and I are both expecting
so we had to get a picture of our bellies:
We didn't have much time to spend but it was so so good to see them!
At
6:00 we made our way to the Energy Solutions Center for the Jazz vs
Grizzlies game. Tyson and I and Ben and Breanna got tickets from
Tyson's dad's work and they included tickets to a pre-game dinner at The
Legend's Club. Oh.my.goodness. It was good food! And all-you-can-eat,
too! AND all-you-can-eat dessert during half-time as well! It was a lot
of fun to take in the upper-class atmosphere for a bit. The game
started slow but it turned out to be really fun to watch and the Jazz
won! There were three funny moments during the game that I want to
remember: when Bear (the Jazz mascot) walked down the aisle with silly
string in both hands spraying people. Mostly bald men, ha ha. It was
during the beginning of the game when things were slow and I think 1/2
of the arena was watching him, not the game. It was hilarious. Then
during a timeout when the camera was panning through the crowd, there
was a man who started to lift his shirt. The camera cut from him but
quickly returned when people started cheering for him. Of course that
egged him on. He pulled his shirt completely off and continued dancing.
Then he grabbed his bucket of popcorn and poured it over his head. Then
he grabbed his large drink and poured it over his head too! Of course
the crowd was loving it. I'm pretty sure he was drunk. It was St.
Patrick's day :) Lastly, at some point during the first quarter, Ben
pointed to the left and asked, "is that Matt?" Turns out, Jake and
Karlie were there! (Sorry Jake--that's what you get for being twins :)
During another timeout the camera was panning through the crowd looking
for people dancing and shaking their keys. The camera cut to Jake while
he danced and he ended up the winner of $25! Those Mitchells! Ha!
Shortly after that we got a text from Cody Labrum saying "I see you." He
must have texted Jake after seeing him on the screen and then Jake told
him where we were. Anyway! Kinda funny!
After the game we walked back to our hotel and made our way up to
our 16th floor corner suite. The view of the city was awesome! Again,
I'm kicking myself for not taking any pictures. There was a surprise
waiting for me when we arrived:
This picture was actually taken the next morning before we left. Pay
attention to the flowers, not me! Aren't they beautiful! The roses were
seriously the most incredible I've ever seen. Unreal, actually. They
were like velvet! (I, on the other hand, look like a pregnant woman who
had too much fun and not enough sleep!) Thanks for such a sweet
surprise, Tyson Lyn!
We hit the road Sunday morning, excited to get back to our boys. It
was a much-needed and extremely-enjoyablee weekend! Nothing beats being
married to your best friend. Thanks for four awesome years, babe! I
can't wait for many many more to come!
