The Pattern

Tyson's parents had 2 boys and 1 girl.
Dennis, Tyson's step dad, had 2 boys and 1 girl.
Betty, Tyson's step mom, had 2 boys and 1 girl.

So statistically speaking, what will Tyson and Dani have?
2 boys and a GIRL!!

When we went in for our last appointment on December 21st we were hoping to find out what we were having so we could surprise our families for Christmas.  I wrote two poems in advance to deliver the special news, one if it was a boy and one if it was a girl.  When the baby didn't cooperate and reveal it's gender I wasn't able to share either poem, but I can now!

The first was a boy who brought so much joy,
following suit 2 years later was number two.
Now the third is on it's way and the doctor portrays
we're adding PINK to our house full of blue!

We went in for our anatomical ultrasound last Friday the 11th.  Of all the anatomical ultrasounds I've experienced, this was by far the most inclusive.  It was amazing what we could see!  I notified the ultrasonographer that we hoped to find out the baby's gender during the ultrasound so she said we'd look to see at the very end.  Since our 12th week ultrasound I've just felt like it was a boy.  Probably mostly because that's just all I know so far?  Even during this ultrasound though, I kept thinking it was a boy.  But then I would imagine "what if" it's a girl, and I could feel my heart race with hope.  Even so, I kept bringing myself back to reality, preparing myself to see what I've always seen between those legs.  After all was measured and accounted for, it came time for the ultrasonographer to find the right angle.  When she did, this is what we saw!!
She told us, "it looks to me like you're having a girl!"  I can't even describe what I felt in that moment.  Mostly disbelief!  I looked at Tyson and laughed.  Kind of in a "did I just hear what I think I heard?" tone.  He looked at me and smiled.  I think?  He didn't say anything, that's for sure.  I know that because he didn't say anything for hours after the ultrasound either!  Ha!  I looked back at the ultrasonographer and told her "we have 2 boys," and she said, "then you might want to make sure with your doctor, but I'd say this one's a girl."

Honestly, 4 days later, I'm still feeling a sense of disbelief.  Again, probably mostly because boys are all I know??  I feel like the ultrasound was staged and the baby will come out boy.  I really can't describe it- -it's just kind of really unbelievable.  But so stinking exciting!  I'm carrying a little girl!  That's pretty special.  To me.

Tyson has come to terms with it and he's excited now.  The poor guy was literally in shock after the ultrasound, ha ha!  I kept asking him what he was thinking and he just shook his head with eyes wide open.  He didn't know what to say!  I think he already feels protective and also a deep sense of concern.  Fathering a little girl is going to be a different world for him.  She's going to make him softer.  She's going to make me softer too.  We need that at our house.  I think Heavenly Father knew that.

Here are a couple more pictures from the ultrasound.

Her face with her arms curled up on each side.

This picture of her hands was the most tender for me.  I can't describe why?  They're perfect.

As for technicalities of the ultrasound, everything looks great!  Baby girl actually measures one week ahead of schedule so we'll see if my doctor ends up pushing my due date up to May 26.

Now I know you're just dying to see my belly.  I've only taken 3 pictures up to this point.

And just because I got curious about how my size this time around compares to my first pregnancy, here is my belly at 26 weeks with Teryn:

Pretty comparable to where I am now (20 weeks).  With each baby comes greater girth =0)

Lastly, I looked at this picture again tonight.

Those little shoes will be filled by a little girl.  That fills my heart with warmth and excitement.

  1. Danielle, I am so happy for you! I love reading your blog. It is so filled with the sweetest spirit of Heavenly Father, and you are right. He does know what we need. She will be a lucky little girl with her big brothers. What an amazing addition to your already beautiful little family!
