Our Holidays

I wish I could come up with a way to make time slow down during the last few months of the year.  The "holiday season" is such a wonderful time and it goes by much too fast.  We were grateful to be back home this year so we weren't in such a rush to see everyone and get back out to the city for work.  Our family time was definitely the best part of our holidays.

I got the tree up just after Thanksgiving and had already done all my shopping so there were immediately gifts to tuck under the tree.  I had a lot of fun making the yarn ball ornaments and it turned out Teryn loved them too.  Within the first 24 hours of having the tree up he took 4 or 5 of them off the tree and threw them around until they were thrashed.  I learned that having a Christmas tree with a 20 month old around means redecorating the tree every day.

Can you tell my favorite color is lime green? =0)

Teryn never messed with the presents because he didn't understand what they were.  He used them as stools to climb up and play with the tree a few times but that's it so it was fun to open presents on Christmas and let him see that there was cool stuff inside!  Santa brought him some wood puzzles, books, toy trucks, a potty chair, and a Little Tikes basketball set.  Everything but the potty chair was exciting- -he screamed when I tried to sit him on it, so it will just sit next to the big toilet in the bathroom until he's ready.

He LOVES his basketball set!  Definitely his father's son =0)

Santa brought Ryder some binkies, diapers, and a few new outfits, including his home-from-the-hospital outfit.  When Tyson opened it he asked, "is he going to fit in this?"  It's so little!  I remember when Teryn was a newborn and I thought 18 month clothes were so big and now he's even bigger than that!  We've already forgotten just how tiny a newborn is so we are excited to be reminded!  We also ordered a glider rocker for Ryder with the money we received from our Summer Citizen friends out in Logan.  We love it!

Santa surprised Tyson pretty good this year.  While we were in the city for Thanksgiving he took a trip to Smith & Edwards and came back raving about a hiking bag he really wanted.  I talked him out of it because I thought it cost too much and he already has enough hiking bags.  Being the easy-going sweetheart he is he let it go and never talked about it again and that's what made me want to get it for him.  The trick was figuring out which bag it was without him knowing.  I talked to my nephew Dylon who had gone with him that day and he remembered that the brand of the bag Tyson really wanted was VooDoo Tactical.  I called Smith & Edwards and gave them the only information I had- -the price and the brand.  They came back to me with two choices, I looked both of them up online, and my nephew told me which one it was.  Tyson was pretty surprised and quite excited when he opened it, so that was fun.  He also got a Zac Brown Band CD, a picture of the Logan temple that I made in Relief Society, and some flannel sheets.

Santa was very good to me this year as well.  I really wanted/needed a new camera so Santa let me do the research and find the one I wanted.  Surprise! =0)  Tyson spoiled me with some beautiful jewelry, an apron, and a pair of new shoes.  Love my man!

This is the first picture I took with my new camera and it's the only picture I got of Tyson and I on Christmas.  We're so happy =0)

Oh yeah!  And I can't forget that we got a toddler bed for Teryn and put him in it for the first time on Christmas Eve too!

I found it on KSL in Ogden and Tyson's brother Brandon swung by to pick it up on his way home from Logan.  I was excited to see Teryn's reaction to a big boy bed, but he didn't give us much.  Just like he reacted when we put him in a front-facing car seat, it was more of an "it's about time!" reaction than a "WOW!  So cool!" reaction.  Kind of anti-climactic.  Oh well.  The first night he ended up on the floor and slept there the entire night but he's managed to stay in his bed every night and every nap since!  Well, as far as we know he has.  We lay him down when it's time to sleep and he's there when we go to get him after he wakes.  I think he loves the idea of being able to get in and out of it on his own, but he also knows what bedtime means and he just stays put where he should be.  It's so sweet to watch him sleep in it.

And he finally gets to actually use the quilt I made before he was born, so that's fun.

We spent Christmas Eve at my parent's house along with my brother Bret's family.  Christmas morning we went to church with Greg and Betty.  Here's Teryn in his Christmas outfit from Grandma Henrie.

After church we opened gifts.  Teryn took his precious time with each present, ripping small pieces and laying them on the arms of his chair one by one.

It was a very relaxing and enjoyable day full of good food and family.  We came home that evening to sleep in our own beds and first thing the next morning we packed up and headed to Vernal for a few days with Michelle and Dennis.  Teryn finally got to meet his cousins Isaac and Evan and I didn't even get a picture of all of them together!  Dangit.  We opened gifts and filled ourselves even more with delicious food and treats.  Oh, and we definitely played our share of Rock Band!

We were so blessed this year- -especially, like I mentioned, to be home and able to really relish the time we got to spend with our family.  We're so grateful for all the generous gifts we received but the best part of Christmas was just being with the people we love.  We're already looking forward to next year!
