Can I Vent?

Just for a minute?

First, last week when Tyson and I went to the doctor for our 22 week ultrasound, I expected it to be the Targeted Ultrasound (a.k.a. "big" ultrasound) where they measure the baby's body parts and check all their organs, etc.  They performed that ultrasound at 20 weeks with Teryn, so I assumed 22 weeks was high time for it, right?  But as I mentioned in my last post, we were in and out of the ultrasound in less than 5 minutes only having found out our baby's gender and seen his face.  After leaving the doctor's office, I got more and more curious the more I thought about it so I called back a few days later.

Me:  "When I saw my doctor at 22 weeks last week, I expected a Targeted Ultrasound.  Do they not do that at this hospital?"
Receptionist:  "No, they do.  You just have to schedule it with Radiology."

Well that's nice to know!  Nothing was ever even mentioned about a Targeted Ultrasound, let alone having to make a seperate appointment for it.  Good thing I've already been through this once so I have an idea of what to expect and what questions to ask!  We now have another appointment to get it done next Friday the 28th.

Now, this morning I've spent hours on the phone getting tossed back and forth between Evenheat and Laguna manufacturing technicians.  You see, I recently purchased a ceramic kiln from ksl.com that didn't come with a manual and I've been trying to figure it out.  Evenheat is the manufacturer of my kiln and Laguna is the manufacturer of my ceramic clay.  Between the two of them, I thought I'd get all my kiln/ceramic questions answered.  I was wrong.  Terribly, terribly wrong.  One technician even went to the point of telling me that my kiln is basically unusable and I need to add all these different gadgets to get it to work.  (Mind you, the cost of the gadgets he wanted me to purchase were 3x more expensive than I even bought the kiln for in the first place!)  Finally, one technician gave me the number to a small business retailer who distributes kilns and he gave me every answer I need to master my kiln!  He was a totally down-to-earth guy from Michigan who obviously has years of experience with kilns and ceramics and that's what makes all the difference!  I thought the manufacturers would have every know-how to get me where I needed to be but they have no idea!!  I'll know in the future to contact the people who USE a product, not who MAKE a product to get answers to my questions.

  1. Oh yeah. Scheduling the ultrasounds. I didn't realize that I had to SCHEDULE mine either, so after going to an appointment with Slice THINKING it was the big one, we had to schedule an ultrasound and come back later. It was lame.
