Let's try to fit the story of Tyson's employed/unemployed history (since we've been married) in a nutshell, shall we?
~ MARRIAGE. March 7, 2009. We begin our lives in Logan. Tyson is unemployed. He has been seeking employment in Cache Valley since August 2008.
~ SUMMER 2009. Tyson is hired for and attempts four different jobs. In no particular order because I can't remember: 1) Dairy Pest Control. He came home reeking strongly of maneur every day. 2) Cutco. Great product, shady employer. 3) Call center. Surrounded by crazies, receiving menial pay. 4) Concrete. Loved it but not enough work for stability.
~ CHRISTMAS BREAK 2009. Tyson interviews for a soon-to-open South Fork Hardware. Lands the job and starts the first week of January 2010.
~ MARCH 13, 2010. Teryn is born. I quit working. We submit our resumès for an on-site apartment manager position at Cobble Creek Apartments
~ APRIL 2010. Interview for manager position. Job is offered and we accept. We move into the new apartment and start the job June 26, 2010.
~ JULY 2010. Tyson wants a change of pace. Interviews for a CNC machinist job at 3rd Gen Machine. Lands the position and quits work at the hardware store.
~ JULY 2010-MAY 2011. Tyson juggles work, the apartments, full time school, and family. Graduates May 2011 with BS degrees in Poli Sci and Economics.
~ POST-GRAD DECISIONS. Continue at USU and get an MBA? Or enroll in the Diesel Mechanics program at BATC? MBA=$18,000 for 2 year program. Diesel Mechanics=$1,800 for 10 month program. We choose Diesel Mechanics.

~ JUNE 2011. Tyson begins Diesel Mechanic program. He also wants a change of pace and seeks a new job. Interviews for a welder helper job. Welder boss learns that Tyson is seeking to learn about diesel mechanics and offers for him to work on the company's trucks. Tyson is beyond thrilled, accepts the job, and gives 2-week notice to 3rd Gen. Starts the new job 2 days later and is put to work on concrete. At the end of the first day, he talks to his new boss and the boss tells him he'll be working concrete, not trucks. Tyson tells boss he won't be coming back. Tyson calls 3rd Gen boss and tells him what happened. 3rd Gen boss lets him come back. Tyson interviews for a handy man job. Handy man boss offers him the job-working under the table. Tyson talks further with him and learns how shady he is. Tyson turns down offer.
~ END OF JUNE 2011. Tyson finally decides to quit 3rd Gen so if the right job presents itself he is available. Within days of quitting, one month and $1,500 worth of tools later, he learns that the Diesel Mechanic program is not certified (despite the fact all of their advertising sources say it is!). Tyson talks to BATC administration to get his money back. He withdraws from program.
~ JULY 2011. Tyson is out of school and unemployed. He spends all his extra time looking for a new (hopefully long-term) job. July is filled with applications, resumès, interviews, and let downs.
~ AUGUST 1, 2011. After seeking employment all across the Wasatch Front with no results, Tyson decides to make a trip home to seek out opportunities. He fnds a few options and sets interview appointments for the following day.
~ AUGUST 2, 2011. Tyson interviews at both Country Cabinets and Chapman Construction. He is offered both jobs. After calling and discussing with me, he decides to accept the position at Chapman. They ask him to start the following Monday, August 8th.
~ AUGUST 8-11, 2011. Tyson stays in Roosevelt for his first week of work. I stay in Logan and hustle to get the apartment packed and cleaned (thankfully my mom came out to help!). Tyson comes back to Logan the evening of the 11th, we finish packing and start loading a moving truck on the 12th, and we are on the road by 9:00 am Saturday, August 13th.
And here we are! Tomorrow will mark our first month since moving home. The transition was easy and we're quite settled in. Teryn is loving all the wide open space. As I type, I'm out on our back porch watching him play in the weeds and throw rocks. I've cleaned up and gotten dressed for the day but have yet to touch my face with makeup. No use gettin' pretty when pregnancy fatigue has the best of me and all I see are cows all day. Tyson will be home from work in about a half hour and we'll be outside to greet him. He's such a hard working man and it's wonderful to see him so happy and at work again (And not to mention dirty! He comes home dirty and dusty and I love it. I think it's hott! *ahem* very attractive. =0) His employment experience since we've been married (or since living in Logan, rather. Moral of the above story: stable, enjoyable employment is hard to come by in Cache Valley!) has been trying and the stress of it all has taken probably 2 years off of his life. But we're happy to be where we are now and we're curious to see what this new step of our story brings!

Oy. What a trip.
ReplyDelete(Cutco? Really? I hope you guys have the knives still!)
Unemployment is the worst thing ever. But I'm glad you're back in the area and hopefully things start to look up...
I want to come see your place sometime! It sounds so nice and peaceful. I wish I had a backyard for Everest to play in. Glad things are going well for you!
ReplyDeleteWow what a ride. Wayne has worked for the same company since the week we got married and plans to work there for a long time. I'm a little more grateful for that after reading what you guys have been through, was probably pretty scary at times. Glad he has a job and you are enjoying where you are. I was hoping we would get to see you at church last Sunday when we were out in Neola, but I guess you were out of town :(
ReplyDeleteYay for a post! We feel you guys...although...After 4 1/2 years of being married, Kev got a job that looks promising. The last 4 years, between the two of us, we have been laid off 3 times. But looking back now, it really has led us in an amazing direction that we wouldn't change for anything. I'm just grateful though that Heavenly Father let us see a portion of "why" things happen. So happy you guys are doing well...now post pics of that belly and when the heck do you find out what you are having?! I keep waiting to see if you post about it!
