Bloggy Business

Hey all you bloggers.

Help me out.

Just trying to understand- -what is the reason for "following" a blog?

I feel like I "follow" blogs I want to keep up with through my blog list(s).

I know there's a page that shows me updates for blogs I'm "following", but I never look at it.  I just keep up with my blog lists.

Tell me if there's something I'm not grasping??

On another blog note, it's really cool when you find out that a craft blog you follow is the creation of someone you KNOW!  Awesome!

  1. Becoming a "follower" can essentially serve the same function as your blog list: finding out when there's new material to read. But as an official follower I you can have additional perks like receiving an email when a blog you follow posts, or showing all the new posts from blogs you follow with summaries in one condensed list on the Blogger Dashboard or Google Reader. This is convenient for people who use Google and it's applications heavily. I don't "follow" blogs myself because I don't rely on my Google email and applications for connecting with people.

Also, publicly showing you follow a blog is a way to show particular affiliations for networking and marketing reasons. For example, a cooking blog might follow other cooking or health blogs that it recommends or has a deal to mutually support/promote.

Essentially, "following" is a blog list on steroids.

  2. Personally, I "follow" blogs to let those people know that I actually read their blogs. For those who follow mine, I take it as an indication that they actually read mine and check it for updates. That's all :)

  3. Oh, and to let old friends from Nauvoo know that I read their blogs (Hi Dani!)
