Day 19

DAY 19: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF RELIGION? OR WHAT DO YOU THINK OF POLITICS?

(I'll comment about religion- -if you want to talk about politics, talk to Tyson =0)

My response to this question could very easily turn into a series of novels if I'm not careful. It's the one thing in this world that I feel more passionate about than my husband.

My life has been built on faith in Jesus Christ. Pictures of Him adorn every room in my home. Scriptures and other religious literature are easily seen and accessible as well. The only children songs I know to sing to Teryn are primary songs. Even the rings on my fingers- -my wedding ring, my Joseph Smith ring, and my Korean CTR ring- -all symbolize what I believe.

I think religion is necessary. At least for those who want direction and purpose in life (everyone?). I think when people put their trust in science and base their beliefs on proof and discovery, they are setting themselves up for a lifetime of discontent and disappointment.

I think religion makes life easier. Not to say it miraculously wipes away the trials and the fears and the insecurities of life, but it provides an unchanging beacon that guides and a strength that overcomes. It gives a sense of reason and belonging. That, to me, is the surest remedy for life's difficulties.

I think religion is the only source of true hope. When I look around and see the agony and confusion our world experiences, I'm grateful that I have an understanding of something greater that will conquer all. Something that will make everything fair in the end. Because life isn't fair. But I know it will be someday.

Now let me say- -I am Mormon, but I realize Mormonism isn't the only religion that provides the above-mentioned blessings. I've personally known incredible people of other faiths- -people who have greatly impacted my life for good. Three friends- -one Catholic, one Lutheran, and one Buddhist- -particularly come to mind. I think all religions enrich lives and provide a sense of purpose. I am grateful for the wonderful things I've learned from those of other faiths, and I hope I never stop learning.

With that said, may I testify that I know The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon)
is
the true church of God
.
All that was established by Christ Himself when He was on the earth has been restored by a modern prophet and we have the blessing of knowing God's truths again. He has a plan for us. He will never leave us alone. He loves us- -He wants us to be happy- -and He wants us to learn what we need to do to return to Him. He wants us home, and he has provided a way to get there.

Believing such things can be difficult- -perhaps impossible- -to some. I submit to them that it doesn't happen quickly nor does it come easily. Faith is like Love. It's a feeling that is felt when sought for and It's depth depends solely on one's desire to nurture it. Our relationship with Heavenly Father is 2-way. He's ready and willing to help us if we'll just choose to seek Him.

If you're reading this and you think I'm being preachy, good =0) I hope I am. I'll share my testimony of the things I know until the day I die because they have blessed my life so much and I want to share my happiness. I'm not perfect. Nowhere near it. But I'm trying- -and believing in Jesus Christ is what gives me hope.

I am who I am today because of my faith. Every blessing in my life is from my Heavenly Father and I'm so grateful to know that He loves me. That solitary fact is enough to help me overcome anything.

Imagine where these 2 people would be without their faith:

  1. I don't think it's preachy to share your beliefs with people! Plus you were a missionary so I think it just comes out in your heart :) I love what you said though. You're pretty amazing!
