Micecapades

So......this one time.....

Tyson went on a mice-killing rampage and strategically placed several mouse traps around our home.  He found more than one sweet spot that landed us dead mice every day- -sometimes multiple times a day.  One morning while he was getting ready for work he watched one lazily walk from the kitchen, into the living room, and up into the piano.  He stuck a trap at the pedal hole where the mouse entered but caught no mouse for a few days.  He decided to trade the traditional trap for a sticky trap and the morning after he set it it was gone.  We couldn't find it anywhere so just figured it was a lost cause until a couple of days later when we could hear peeping from inside the piano.  Luckily, Tyson's dad knows how to disassemble a piano so he showed us how to pull the front of the piano off to get inside.  When we opened it, there was the mouse, stuck to the trap and unable to go anywhere.  But next to the mouse on the trap, there was a baby mouse as well!?  That's weird.....just one baby?  We looked for more but couldn't see any so we grabbed what we saw and closed the piano.

Well, a few days later, I was sitting on the couch reading a book after putting the boys down for naps.  I kept hearing peeping, and it was coming from the piano.  Tyson was away but when he got home I told him what I had been hearing.  We listened closer to determine where the sound was coming from specifically and Tyson went to work.

After tearing the piano apart, he discovered a nest RIGHT UNDER the piano keys!  I don't understand how those mice survived there!  Teryn pounds on those keys, and Tyson and I did our own share of pounding every once in a while
knowing there were mice and trying to scare them out!  There were three babies in the nest and one wandering just outside of it, nearing the edge that would have sent him on a fall like the other baby we previously found.

The nest was pretty incredible, actually.  Very intricate and well made of something like cushion stuffing.  Stinkin varmints!!!

(If you're wondering what we did with the mice, we fed them to the cats.  The cats didn't even have to chew- -they were small enough to swallow in one bite! ;)

  1. oh my gosh! carla would be freakin out!! seriously, i don't think she could step foot in your house if she knew about this!!! on another note, i use to sell pest control and we were always told "horror" stories about catching mice. and one story was from those sticky traps. never use them! a client said she used one and came downstairs because she heard "screaming" and the mouse bit it's arm off and was trying to escape so there was blood all over the floor. sick!! so yea...hope you got them all!!!
