I Knew It...

April 17, 2012.  6:53 am.  This was my Facebook status:

"I need to be funnier."

I already knew it, right?

But then I get on Blogger tonight to see what's going on in my friends' lives and possibly post something about my own.  I find that Blogger has a new face.  Layouts, options, information.  Everything has changed.

One new feature shows the number of times a post has been viewed.

Now, we all say that we don't care whether other people read our blogs or not.  And we claim we aren't bothered if no one comments on what we have to say.  But really?  It's nice to know we aren't talking to ourselves.  And it's nice to know that other people care about what we have to say.

Or am I the only one?

I think the most comments I've ever received on a post was 15.  Not bad, right?

Until Blogger tells you how many times the post was viewed.

350.

Three hundred fifty.

Now I'm no math whiz but I think that's 335 more than 15.  Three hundred thirty five people who weren't moved upon to comment on what I wrote.  Only four percent (4%) of my readers had a reply to what I had to say.

Then again, that's great compared to some of my other posts.  We're lookin' at  8/269, 5/167, 5/223.  That's a two percent (2%) reply rate.  Nice!

I need to be funnier.  Or something.

  1. I sometimes feel the same way- even if it's just a "cool post" or "fun picture" comment it makes me happy! Although I will admit that when you post about mommy things I really have no idea what to say. I always read it but not having kids I can't exactly say "Oh I know what you're going through." I love reading your mommy things though so keep posting them!

  2. :) I love this post, so I'll comment on it! My theory is that people are embarrassed at how much they stalk one another, so they don't comment hoping that no one will ever discover how much they really know about someone. Haha...to be completely honest, that's why I don't comment sometimes. Now that blogger reveals everything, I've been caught as a real creeper ;)

  5. I've had a site tracker for a long time, and it's more accurate than the Blogger one. I used to check it semi-obsessively (just curious about who was reading!) but I finally stopped doing that. It wasn't helping.
    Still, comments are always nice.
