Last year Spring Break, we were on our honeymoon. This year Spring Break, we brought home our son. Our anniversary was just 6 days before Teryn's birth, and now he's 6 months old which means we've been married for 1 1/2 years! Am I the only one that thinks that's neat? Probably.
Well, while I have a minute I want to sit down and post about Teryn's big 6-monther. Although it's still 5 days away, these spare nothing-else-to-do minutes are few and far between these days, so I'm going to steal one right now so that the big day doesn't pass me by.
Teryn is move'n and groove'n these days. Big time! He hasn't quite discovered his knees yet, so there's no signs of crawling, but it's amazing where he can go and what he can get into by rolling around!! The other day, I left him on the floor in the living room with his toys while I went to the bedroom to do something. I came back three minutes later and he was hang'n out on the floor in the kitchen- -probably 10 feet from where I left him! He hadn't ever been on the kitchen floor before, and when I came back in and asked, "what are you doing, mister!?" he started to kick and squeal as if he'd been caught red handed and kicked really fast as if to get away. He thought he was pretty awesome. Too cute.
We got a jumper for him, and if the springs were any bigger he'd bounce himself through the ceiling!! Since we got it, we've noticed a drastic difference in his strength and ability to get around- -it's amazing. He just works himself to death in it. Even when he gets tired, he starts to cry, but never stops bouncing. It's quite the entertainment.
Teryn said his first word about a week ago! Tyson and I always talk to him like a big kid and one day realized that Teryn needed to hear the simple words before he could learn to say them. So Tyson started saying "dada" and I started saying "mama" to maybe make a distinction between the two of us. Teryn's first word was "mama," which I credit only to the fact that I'm the one with him 24/7, so that's what he hears most. It was so cute to watch him concentrate so hard on the way I moved my mouth to make that sound. He mimicked the movement for quite some time, and then one morning after he woke up and I brought him to hang out in bed with me, I said, "mama," and he said it back!! Melted my heart.
Over the course of the past 3 or 4 weeks, he's been more whiny and uneasy than usual. 2 very distinct tantrums are especially engraved in my mind. Absolutely unsatiable. We wondered if he was teething......and Monday, when I felt his gums, something poked me! Teeth numbers 1 and 2 have made their debut! Now that they're cut out of his gums, he seems to be back to himself again. I've attempted and attempted to get pictures for proof and memories, but he refuses to let me get that close to his face with the camera. I did get one picture, and if you look close enough you can see the right tooth cutting out. I'm afraid that's the only picture I'll get.
Teryn jabbers up a storm and has a squeal that pierces our ears. We call him our little raptor, or mini T-rex. He does it when something catches him off-guard and scares him and when he gets really really excited. He also belly-laughs now. That's my favorite. I can already tell he's going to be one of the "if I make mommy laugh, I won't be in trouble," type kids. Yay for me =0)
Teryn absolutely loves his daddy. Just last night, we were all sitting at the dinner table and Tyson got up to go in the other room for a minute and Teryn watched him walk away with the saddest little face you've ever seen! He cried when Tyson was out of view and then perked right back up as soon as he was back. It will be fun to watch him grow to be daddy's little buddy.
He sits up with hardly any help, his favorite toy is newspaper, he licks and chews on everything, he loves music-especially piano music. I could go on and on.....and on. Can you tell??
Jump'n boy
As for Tyson and I, work is in full swing now that the school year has begun and all the students have moved in. So far, there've been no real problems and we seem to have good tenants, so the year should be pretty painless (knock on wood). Tyson will finish his degrees in the spring and we're really excited to be done! Then who knows what our next adventure will be?
We're happy, healthy, and so blessed we can hardly believe it. God is good. Real good.
