Good thing God knows
People often ask the question, "What's new?" To which I typically answer, "Not much. Just the same ol' same ol'," or something of the like.
But not today, ladies and gentlemen. Today, I would answer, "God is great!" (That's not new, but the blessing He's given is =0)
Yesterday, Tyson and I received a phone call that will now determine our upcoming year. Last month, we applied for a manager position at Cobble Creek Apartments here in Logan. We heard from them 2 weeks ago to set up an interview and at that point, they told us, "You beat out a whole lot of people. You're in the top 6 and you're the first ones we've called. When can we meet?" Well, we met with them Monday afternoon which ended with a, "We'll let you know by Friday whether we choose you or not." So our wait began, but surprisingly, didn't last long. Yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon, I was snuggled on my bed with Teryn taking a nap, when Tyson came running in the room with my phone in hand and anxiously said, "Dani! It's Dave!" Now typically, I'd have let it go to voicemail so I could save him the pain of being the messenger of (if it were) bad news. Per chance it was good news, I'd return the call. But Tyson is a better person than I and eliminated that option. Thanks Babe =0) I immediately broke out in a sweat. I answered, trying to sound collected, and trying to pretend I didn't know who it was (I had saved his name and number in my phone so I'd know if he was calling =0) He told me, "You rated higher than anyone else, so we'd like you to hop on-board with us." Of course we accepted!
So what does the job entail? We will manage 21 student apartments. I'll be the office lady and Tyson will be the maintenance man. The perks? Free rent, free utilities, free internet, free cable, free laundry, and $300 a month. Not bad? Not bad at all.
In fact, it's a major blessing. Heavenly Father just seems to keep showering us with those lately. Allow me to ramble.
Tyson and I got married the 7th of March last year. It wasn't a month later that we felt we should start our family. We prayed about it, and shortly thereafter, I quit my birth control and left it in God's hands. Well. July 3rd was the day of our first positive pregnancy test and there was no turning back. During the months that followed, we debated about what we would do financially. Tyson had yet to find (enjoyable) steady work and I didn't want to work full-time once our baby was here. We decided I would keep one job so we had some source of income and Tyson would schedule his classes so he could be home while I worked. Well. December rolled around and a new hardware store was opening in south Logan, so Tyson looked into it. He was interviewed and hired as the only part-time employee on their staff. We sat down with our budget and decided we could make it on his income, so I let my employers know I'd be finished when my baby came. What a tender mercy!
So then March rolled around and this manager position was posted on USU's job board. We sent our resumes (2 days before Teryn was born) and fasted and prayed to be hired. As you read above, our prayers were answered.
The thing is, if we hadn't had Teryn, we wouldn't have even been considered for the job. The position requested "a couple with a young child." That's us---now. Did you notice the timing? We sent our resumes 2 days before Teryn was born. Last April, when we felt we should start our family, Heavenly Father obviously saw what (could be) in store for us. Had we waited, even a few weeks or a month more, we wouldn't have been candidates for this job. I'm certain that He knew we would need the financial help, and on the flip side, I have no doubt that He is blessing us because we're doing what He's asked us to do.
To anyone who wants to follow their own plans in life, I say, "Good luck!" I'll stick to following God's plan. He knows. For that, I am grateful.
On a lighter note, I couldn't possibly post without more pictures of our handsome boy. Second to seeing him smile, my favorite thing is watching him sleep.
